Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team's hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop elevated at each end. Players advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing the ball while moving) or passing to teammates. Points are scored by making field goals from within or outside the three-point line, with different values assigned based on the shot location. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins. Basketball emphasizes skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defensive maneuvers. The sport is known for its fast pace, high scoring, and athleticism, making it popular worldwide. It was invented in 1891 by Dr. James Naismith as a way to keep students engaged indoors during the winter months. Today, basketball is played professionally, at the collegiate level, and recreationally around the globe.
