Leonard Peltier
Leonard Peltier is a Native American activist and member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), who became widely known for his involvement in the 1975 shooting deaths of two FBI agents during a confrontation at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Peltier was convicted of murder in 1977, but his case has been controversial, with many alleging that he did not receive a fair trial and that key evidence was withheld or fabricated. His case has garnered significant attention from human rights organizations, activists, and celebrities, who argue that he is a political prisoner and advocate for his release. Peltier's case is often cited in discussions about injustice in the treatment of Native Americans and issues surrounding federal law enforcement.
